This 1870s cast iron fireplace summer cover came to us buried under a century and a half
of rust. A "summer cover" is the ornate panel that sealed off the firebox when the fireplace
sat unused for the warm season -- this one, cast with a classical figure and cherub wrapped
in flowing rococo scrollwork, is a true piece of Victorian craftsmanship. We blasted it, along
with its matching arched insert frame, back to bare metal -- protecting every fine line in the
casting -- then refinished it clean and white. From rusted and forgotten to a restored
centerpiece: that's the work we live for at Black Widow Blasting.
